As the annual STS Enterprise March Madness event approaches, it’s no secret that the Lane College Quiet Storm Marching Band is set to be the halftime show entertainment. The name of the band speaks for itself. They began quietly in the fall of 2015 with only 48 members, but you can prepare to feel the storm of this 104-member band on Saturday, March 23.
“We are bringing all three of the auxiliaries; the band, the majorettes, and the flag girls,” said Band Director Cozbia Smith.
The Quiet Storm Marching Band is led by Band Director, Cozbia Smith; Assistant Band Directors, Antwan Gardner and Deonte Kennedy; and Majorette/Auxiliary Director, Teressa Tate.
“Our goal for March Madness is not only to entertain, but to inspire students,” Smith said. “We want to motivate students that already play instruments as well as those who don’t, that joining a band is a great opportunity to grow in that skill and pay for their college education.”
Smith and the STS family have partnered through witnessing of hard work and service.
“I know Alton from church and we have similar work ethics and beliefs. I will always support people that are trying to help out our future,” Smith said.
Similar to STS Enterprise, The Quiet Storm Marching Band focuses on the needs of its students and offers a home away from home environment.
“Our band is family-oriented,” Smith said. “When students join this band, they feel at home.”
