What Does STS Mean to You
Hello STS Family and Friends, welcome to our new blog series, “What Does STS Mean to You.” Where we will highlight STS members and others who wish to share their story of how STS impacted them and What Does STS Mean to Them.
About Kristen Burnett
Kristin Burnett, affectionately known throughout STS as “KB,” has been with STS for three years. Kristin started her journey with STS as a Coach for the Strive Program in 2020, then transitioned to being responsible for Strive Marketing, and now serves as our Marketing Director since 2022. She has dedicated her time and work to help our mission. Kristin describes herself as resilient and a risk-taker, and her experience at STS has felt like a second home.
“What does STS mean to you?”
Kristin: “STS means everything! I have been following the organization and watching its growth for many years. Even from across the country, I could feel the way STS impacted my Memphis community. To me, STS is a safe space for Memphis youth and young adults. STS has helped me grow into a female boss by giving me a leadership position and provided opportunities to develop the next generation of Memphians.”
“Where were you before STS?”
Kristin: “Before STS, I was a student at Hampton University, getting a degree in Computer Information Systems and starting my career as a data engineer for Thrivent Financial in Minneapolis, MN. Even back then, I knew I wanted to do something different outside of my corporate profession. When the Pandemic hit, I had the opportunity to move back home to Memphis. I knew that was my time to join STS a an success coach.”
“How do you think STS has impacted you?”
Kristin: “STS pushed me outside my comfort zone and challenged me to show what I could do! STS help me build more confidence and skills. Now, I have the amazing opportunity to help lead their social media and marketing department. STS is unique because so many people have matriculated through the program either as a student, coach, or board member. If I ever decide to leave STS, I want to leave them with a reusable social media strategy. It’s kind of my way of leaving my legacy on STS.”
“Where do you think you would be if you never joined STS?”
Kristin: If I had never joined STS, I would still be on the same path. However, I would not be impacting anyone or anything. Instead, I would probably just be focusing on myself and my personal goals.”
“What are you grateful for?”
Kristin:“I am grateful and blessed to have been given the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others, and them make a difference in me.”
